Keyword research
The keyword research tool helps you find search terms with strong demand and acceptable competition — before you spend ad budget on them. It pulls from Amazon’s search data and overlays your own historical performance so you don’t have to context-switch into another tool.
In this guide:
- Open keyword research
- Search for and rank keywords
- Filter by relevance, volume, and competition
- Add winners to a campaign
Prerequisites
- At least one Ads connection.
- The product (ASIN) you want to research is in your catalog.
Step 1: Open keyword research
Go to Advertising → Keyword research in the sidebar, or click Research from inside any campaign’s targeting tab.
Step 2: Seed your search
Enter one of:
- An ASIN — Hilal expands into the keywords that ASIN ranks for.
- A seed keyword — Hilal expands into related and long-tail variants.
- A competitor’s ASIN — same idea, applied to their listing.
Click Search.
Step 3: Read the results
The result table shows, per keyword:
| Column | What it means |
|---|---|
| Keyword | The search term. |
| Search volume | Estimated monthly searches in the marketplace. |
| Competition | Index of how many sellers actively bid for this term. |
| Suggested bid | Amazon’s recommended bid range for top-of-search. |
| Your performance | If you’ve targeted this keyword before, your historical impressions, clicks, and ACoS. |
| Relevance | Hilal’s relevance score (0–100) for the seed. |
Sort by any column.
Step 4: Filter
The filter bar lets you narrow:
- Min/max search volume
- Min relevance
- Max competition
- Match type compatibility (broad / phrase / exact)
- Already in my campaigns — exclude or show only keywords you’re already targeting.
Step 5: Add winners to a campaign
Tick the rows you want and click Add to campaign in the bottom bar:
Choose:
- Campaign — which campaign to add to (or Create new in the same flow).
- Ad group — which ad group within that campaign.
- Match type — broad / phrase / exact.
- Bid — defaults to the suggested bid; override if you want.
Click Add. Hilal pushes the targets to Amazon’s Ads API.
Troubleshooting
- No results. Either the seed is too narrow, or that marketplace doesn’t have enough search-data coverage. Try a broader seed.
- Suggested bids look unrealistic. Amazon’s suggestion is based on the broader category — start with a fraction of it for a new campaign.
- “Your performance” is empty. You haven’t targeted that keyword historically. Hilal can only annotate what you’ve already run.
