Notification Preferences
Hilal’s notification system keeps you informed of everything that matters: orders, billing, team members joining, subscription reminders, and inventory updates. This page is where you control what fires, when, and how.
In this guide:
- Notification preferences overview
- Configure by notification type
- Notification channels and delivery modes
- Quiet hours and digest schedules
- Activity history
Step 1: Open Notification Preferences
Settings → Notification Preferences.
Step 2: Configure by notification type
Scroll through the list of notification types. For each type, toggle which channels it can use and the delivery mode.
Notification types are grouped by category:
| Category | Types |
|---|---|
| Amazon | Order change, Product import completed, Product import failed. |
| Billing | Auto-recharge succeeded, Auto-recharge failed, Renewal reminder. |
| Team & Account | Team member joined/left. |
Each notification type has a default severity (log, warning, or critical). You can tune what severity levels actually send to you.
Step 3: Notification channels and delivery modes
Seven channels are available, each with different delivery-mode options:
| Channel | Default | Delivery modes |
|---|---|---|
| In-app | On | Real-time, Hourly, Daily, Weekly. |
| On | Real-time, Hourly, Daily, Weekly. | |
| Mobile Push | Off | Real-time, Hourly, Daily. |
| Off | Real-time, Daily. | |
| SMS | Off | Real-time only. |
| Slack | Off | Real-time, Hourly, Daily. |
| Messenger | Off | Real-time, Daily. |
For each notification type, you choose:
- Channel — which channels receive this notification type.
- Enabled/Disabled — toggle on or off.
- Delivery mode — when and how to deliver (real-time, hourly/daily/weekly digest, depending on the channel).
- Minimum severity — only send notifications above a certain severity level (log, warning, or critical).
Example: auto-recharge failures sent immediately via email, but product import completions digested daily via Slack.
Step 4: Set global quiet hours
At the top of the page, under Global Settings:
- Quiet hours — toggle on, then set a start and end time.
- Pick your timezone from the dropdown.
During quiet hours, notifications pause (except critical ones) and queue up. They resume at the end time.
Example: quiet hours from 22:00 to 07:00 in your timezone stop notifications during sleep.
Step 5: Configure digest schedules
Under Global Settings, set when you want to receive digest summaries:
- Daily digest — pick a time (default 09:00).
- Weekly digest — pick a day and time (default Monday 10:00).
Notifications queued during the digest period are bundled into a single email or Slack message at that time.
The timezone for quiet hours and digests is taken from your timezone in User profile.
Step 6: Review notification history
The Activity Center in Hilal records all notifications sent to you. Open it from the bell icon at the top-right to see:
- Date and time.
- Notification type and title.
- Your read/unread status (for in-app notifications).
This is helpful for debugging “Why didn’t I get that alert?” or finding an old notification you need to reference. See Notification history for details.
Troubleshooting
- Too many notifications. Toggle off the noisy types or switch them to digest mode. Defaults are sensible for new users; experienced users usually trim.
- A notification type is greyed out. Some notification types are only available on certain plans or with certain feature flags. Upgrade or contact support if needed.
- Digest emails are empty. Digests only send if there’s at least one notification queued. If you toggled everything to digest mode, you may not see digests until an event occurs.
- Quiet hours aren’t working. Check that your timezone is correct in User profile. Quiet hours are always relative to your local time.
- Slack notifications not arriving. Make sure Slack is enabled for that notification type. Slack authentication is not yet available as a separate step; configure Slack delivery within each notification type’s channel settings.
