Create a note
Notes are the cross-product capture surface. Type a thought, dictate a voice memo, attach a file, set a reminder for later — and (coming soon) ingest the whole thing into your chatbot’s knowledge base. Notes sync to Hilal’s backend so they’re available on every device and on the web.
In this guide:
- Open the new-note screen
- Fill in the basics
- Add audio recordings
- Attach files
- Set a reminder
- Save
Prerequisites
- You’re signed in. Notes is available to all subscriptions.
Step 1: Open the new-note screen
Three ways:
- FAB → Notes → + New note in the top-right.
- Drawer → Notes → +.
- AI Features → Notes → +.
Step 2: Fill in the basics
| Field | Notes |
|---|---|
| Title (required) | Short and recognizable. Used as the search anchor. |
| Content | The body. Plain text; rich text and Markdown rendering are on the roadmap. |
| Category | Pick from your category list, or create a new one inline. → Categories & tags |
| Tags (optional) | Free-form labels; multi-select. |
| Type (optional) | Note type from the dropdown — text snippet, audio, document, or custom. Mostly informational; the UI adapts mildly per type. |
Step 3: Add audio recordings
Tap the microphone icon. The recording modal slides up.
- Tap Record to start.
- Tap Pause to pause; tap again to resume.
- Tap Stop to finish.
The recording attaches to the note. You can record multiple clips per note (e.g., a quick “what I want to remember” clip and a follow-up “and also…” clip). Each clip is auto-transcribed when you save the note. → Voice notes for the full reference.
Step 4: Attach files
Tap the paperclip icon. Pick from:
- Photo library — JPG, PNG.
- Document picker — PDF, DOCX, TXT, etc.
- Camera — take a photo right now.
Each attachment shows as a chip on the note. Multiple attachments per note are fine.
Step 5: Set a reminder (optional)
Tap the bell icon → pick a date and time. The note shows the scheduled time as a chip.
When the time arrives, your device pops a local notification. Tapping it opens the note. → Note reminders for the full reference.
Step 6: Save
Tap Save in the top-right. Hilal:
- Posts the note to the backend.
- Uploads any attached audio for transcription.
- Schedules the local notification (if you set one).
- Returns you to the Notes list with the new note at the top.
Editing a saved note
Tap any note in the list to open it. Tap Edit in the top-right; everything you set on creation is editable. Save to commit.
Coming soon
- Notes → Chatbot KB — opt a note into your chatbot’s knowledge base. → Notes → Chatbot KB (coming soon)
- Voice-to-note quick capture — tap-and-hold from anywhere to dictate a note. → Voice quick capture (coming soon)
- Markdown rendering — render headings, lists, links in the body.
- Note templates — pre-built skeletons for recurring use cases (warehouse check, vendor call, customer feedback).
Troubleshooting
- Save failed, “couldn’t reach server”. Check the offline banner. The note is held locally; tap Save again when you’re back online.
- Audio didn’t transcribe. Audio uploads run async; transcription usually takes 30 seconds. Pull-to-refresh the note. If transcription fails (very long files, low-quality recording), the audio attaches without a transcript and you can re-try transcription from the note’s detail page.
- File too big. 50 MB max per attachment. Compress or split.
